The high price of the Vision Pro, currently at $3,499, has prompted the company to explore cost-cutting measures to make this cutting-edge technology more accessible to a broader audience. This strategic pivot aims to balance advanced features with a more consumer-friendly price point, targeting a launch by the end of 2025.
One of the significant changes being considered for the cheaper headset is the removal of some premium components and features. For instance, the new model might use larger, but lower-resolution displays to reduce costs. This adjustment in display quality, from the high-density OLED panels currently used, aims to lower the overall production expenses without compromising the user experience excessively. Additionally, the EyeSight feature, which allows others to see the user's eyes through the headset, might be omitted in the budget model, further trimming costs.
Another critical cost-saving measure involves the processing power of the headset. The more affordable Vision model may need to be tethered to an iPhone or Mac, leveraging the processing capabilities of these devices instead of integrating a dedicated processor within the headset.
